Dr. Aikens-Young has served in the Education Department at ³ûÄñÊÓƵ for 20 years. She retired from her first career in public schools with 34 years of experience. Dr. Aikens-Young was a classroom teacher and served as lead teacher, assistant principal and principal at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Dr. Aikens-Young has been an educator for over 50 years. She believes that education is a calling and you can only excel as an educator if you love what you are doing. She also specializes in teaching multicultural education, literacy, and leadership classes at the undergraduate, masters, specialist and Ed.D. levels at ³ûÄñÊÓƵ. Dr. Aikens-Young loves traveling and has visited South Africa, China, Spain, Italy, France, the Netherlands, England, Jamaica and the Bahamas. Her goal is to continue exploring this wonderful world that God has made.

Born in Mexico, Erika has lived in Gainesville with her family since 2002. As an English language learner and a servant leader at heart, Erika’s desire to teach English sparked when she noticed members of her family and community struggling to communicate in English, and she would often translate and interpret for them. In spring 2019, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Linguistics, a minor in French, and a certification to teach English as a Foreign Language from Georgia State University. In the summer 2020, she graduated with a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics and a certification to teach English as a Second Language from Georgia State University as well.

Before and during her university years, Erika taught English to a variety of students in different places, such as adults in Gainesville, children in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, international students within the Intensive English Program at Georgia State University, and pre-K students at Little Linguists International Preschool. After her graduation, she has taught adults at the Latin American Association and international students within ON Language’s Intensive English Program at ³ûÄñÊÓƵ. She currently teaches English at ³ûÄñÊÓƵ’s English Language Institute and at the Latin American Association.

Dr. Madeline Altabe is a licensed psychologist with research and clinical interests in body image and eating disorders. She graduated with a bachelor’s in social psychology from New College of Florida and studied clinical and community psychology in graduate school earning a master’s and Ph.D. She has worked in academia, nonprofits and private practice. In her personal life, she is part of a blended family of five. She enjoys nature walks and museums, and is always wanting to learn more.

Jay Andrews is the chief executive overseeing ³ûÄñÊÓƵ’s educational, non-commercial FM radio station 89.1 WBCX. Some of Jay’s tasks and responsibilities include integrating all ongoing radio station programming; creating broadcast day formatting 24/7; negotiating ongoing contracts with vendors including National Public Radio, the British Broadcasting Corporation, American Public Media; and following and implementing Federal Communications Commission standard broadcast regulations, as well as Georgia Association of Broadcasters policies. He also enjoys working with students, community volunteers and all departments to deliver programs, interviews and on-air news about ³ûÄñÊÓƵ.

Outside of the classroom, Jay can be found tinkering with his classic car collection, walking Xena the wonder dog, and creating voice over pieces for radio and TV stations around the world from his studio. Jay earned his bachelor’s in Communications from ³ûÄñÊÓƵ and met his wife Gigi while studying at the university. One of his favorite things to do at ³ûÄñÊÓƵ is announcing graduate names during commencement ceremonies each spring and winter. ³ûÄñÊÓƵ’s Communication Department is home to a lot of great success stories both on-air and behind the scenes. Welcome all incoming ³ûÄñÊÓƵ students!

Chip Andrews has been vice president of information technology and chief information officer at ³ûÄñÊÓƵ since 2012. He arrived in 2005 as the university’s chief IT officer. His primary role is managing the budget, operations and staff of ³ûÄñÊÓƵ’s information technology department. Over the last decade, he oversaw ³ûÄñÊÓƵ’s transition to more streamlined technology services, including the university’s migration from Blackboard LMS to Canvas LMS, which brought improved analytics, mobile support, integrated audio and video and superior hosting to ³ûÄñÊÓƵ’s classrooms and offices. Specializing in Microsoft SQL server security, he founded the cybersecurity firm Special Ops Security and long-running website  before arriving at ³ûÄñÊÓƵ. He holds a bachelor’s degree in applied computer science from Southern Polytechnic State University and a master’s degree in applied computer science from Columbus State University.

Jacquelyn Arena serves as assistant to the dean of the College of Fine Arts & Humanities and is also the office manager for the Departments of Dance, Music, & Theatre. Prior to ³ûÄñÊÓƵ, Jacquelyn held positions as an office manager and human resources assistant, and worked as the radio station assistant manager for a nonprofit station in Alaska. She graduated in 2018 through Thomas Edison State University’s online program, earning a bachelor’s in business administration, focusing on human resources and organizational management. Today, she lives in Gainesville with Pepper, her 5-year-old Jack Russell terrier. Jacquelyn loves music, having played the piano for 18 years and the violin for eight. She also especially enjoys all things musical theatre, from attending productions, to researching all the behind-the-scenes information of a show.

Gay Baldwin, LPC is the University Counselor, stepping into her 11th year serving students at ³ûÄñÊÓƵ. Early in her career, Gay studied music and art at Pfeiffer University, in North Carolina. She holds a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Argosy University. She is a seasoned practitioner with multiple qualifications.

Early in her career, Gay served low-income individuals and families in the Appalachian areas of the beautiful North Georgia mountains, by providing homestead therapy, case management, and substance abuse education/assessment. She served three years of service as the Assistant Director at Jesse’s House, working with girls ages 7 to 18. Gay has also held certifications with the Department of Behavioral Health and Disease Disabilities, including providing services as a clinical evaluator and treatment provider for nine years, as well as serving as a certified instructor with Prime for Life.

The Counseling Center located at the Center for Health & Well-Being. provides free, confidential, and bilingual counseling services with Miriam Gomez, LPC. Other modalities of counseling include art expression and calm rooms, which are located throughout the campus. We strive to provide a supportive, respectful and collaborative therapeutic environment where you can fully explore your concerns, challenges, and values.

Dhruba Banjade is a program director and an assistant professor of Finance at the School of Business and Communication (CBC) at the ³ûÄñÊÓƵ. Before joining ³ûÄñÊÓƵ, he was a lecturer and post-doctoral research associate at the University of Texas at Arlington. He also served as an associate professor and department head at the Electrical Department at the Nepal Engineering College in Nepal. Furthermore, he served as a visiting associate professor at the Kathmandu University in Nepal.

Dhruba received his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2020 and has taught several finance courses there since 2016. He earned a master’s degree in computer engineering from Nepal College of Information Technology in Nepal. He received his BE (with honors) in electrical engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila in Pakistan. He also completed 10 months of research work under Professor Pasquale Dapunte at Sannio University in Italy. Dhruba has over 20 years of teaching experience. His professional career includes working as a project activity leader at the Peak Power Pvt. Ltd in Nepal.

Dhruba is a dedicated teacher and effective mentor for students with diverse backgrounds and career goals. His teaching interests include personal finance, investments, corporate finance, financial risk management, microeconomics, and international finance. He has presented several research articles at the Financial Management Association and Southwestern Finance Association. His research interests include ENG (environmental, social, and governance), corporate finance, business forecasting, and artificial neural networks.

He is an active member of professional organizations, including the Financial Management Association and the Southwestern Finance Association. Outside his academic and professional interests, he likes to travel, read, write, and serve the community. He has traveled around the world to India, Pakistan, Italy, Spain, France, Malta, the United Kingdom and other locations.
